Why Perk thinks Draymond’s defense of Steph is ‘weird’

Kendrick Perkins calls Draymond Green again. This time, however, it has nothing to do with the Warriors forward’s playing ability.

Instead, Perkins took offense to Green’s latest comments to defend his teammate, Steph Curry.

On Monday’s episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Green argued that Curry has yet to win an NBA Finals MVP trophy because he’s teamed up “seven times” more times than his former teammate Kevin Durant in Golden State’s last two title races.

“If you’re able to analyze a game, there’s no way you’re going to say Steph Curry needs a Finals MVP to validate who he is,” Green said on his podcast.

Perkins, the 2008 NBA champion turned analyst, called Green’s comments “weird” during a lengthy rant Tuesday on ESPN’s “NBA Today.”

“I’m confused because no one ever questioned how great Steph Curry was,” Perkins said. “So for Draymond to say that, it’s weird to me. Nobody ever said that [Curry] needed to earn a Finals MVP to solidify his greatness. … They said a Finals MVP would make it better and put it in a different conversation, which it will be.

“If you toe the line and give me your top 10 players of all time, they all have a Finals MVP. That’s all we’re saying. In my opinion, I had Steph Curry as a than No. 12. For Draymond to create this narrative that everyone says – Steph Curry, a generational talent, a guy who changed the game forever – is sitting here saying he needs a Finals MVP to score his legacy? No one says that.”

Green’s comments not only drew a reaction from Perkins, but also from Durant, who said his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate’s assessment of Curry’s cover was “100% wrong” in a tweet. . A back-and-forth between the two NBA stars ensued, ending with Durant telling Green, “I love the show.”

While Green and Durant’s disagreement seemed to end amicably, Perkins’ past conflict with the outspoken Golden State veteran could lead to a different outcome.

“It’s crazy for me, because we just let this guy [Green] sit here and call people over and over again to get his approval,” Perkins continued.

If the past is any indication, Green will surely have an answer to Perkins’ complaints.
