US hiring demand remained strong in April

Demand for workers remained robust in the spring, with job openings in April and the number of times workers quit their jobs falling from the previous month’s records.

The Labor Department announced Wednesday that there were 11.4 million seasonally adjusted job openings in April, down from the upward-revised record of 11.9 million openings reached the month previous. The number of times workers left their jobs fell slightly to 4.4 million. These two signs indicate that the labor market remains exceptionally tight.
