The shortage of infant formula in the United States worries parents. Here’s what you need to know.


For months, American parents and caregivers have had to deal with dwindling supplies of formula. But in recent weeks, products have been particularly hard to find, forcing some retailers to limit purchases as the Food and Drug Administration scrambles to respond to the crisis.

About 1 in 4 parents exclusively breastfeeds their children until they are 6 months old, according to the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leaving the overwhelming majority of parents and caregivers at least partially dependent on formula.
