When Street Fighter 6 was unveiled earlier thIthe yearone of the weirdest and most noticeable things about its otherwise unremarkable trailer was the game’s logo. Which, as I said at the time, looked a lot like a piece of clipart.
If you missed it, here’s the Street Fighter 6 logo as it was featured in February on the left, while on the right is a piece of commercially available clipart from Adobe for $80.
Considering the series’ long and proud history with badass logos, this was a huge disappointment! I mean, look at these babies!
So it was interesting see today that, when the game resurfaced with a new trailerthat cheap logo had been removed and replaced with something a bit smoother.
It’s actually not this different. This retains the hexagon shape from the first effort, as well as its font, but changes things up slightly by turning that hexagon into a “6″. A who in a neat trick can be read two ways, flipping it to the side to reveal the Roman numerals “VI”, reminiscent of the fact that all other sequels in the series so far have used this convention (“Street Fighter II”“Street Fighter IV”etc):
Is it now a great logo? No. But it’s not a disaster anymore, I think it’s interesting that they went to change it so soon, and thought the spilled thing was neat enough to share! If you want to hear more about the game’s big gameplay trailer from earlier today, head over here and let Ian, who knows more about street fighter let the rest of us together – guide you through all the changesincluding the introduction of a very strange open world section that looks a lot like NBA 2K neighborhood, only without the sneaker shops.
