Several houses in flames as Laguna Niguel brush fire grows


LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (KABC) – Several homes in Laguna Niguel are ablaze as a fast-moving bushfire in the Aliso and Wood Canyons area spreads rapidly, closing in on closer residential areas and prompting evacuations.

The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon between Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach near a sewage treatment plant, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.

It quickly sent smoke into the sky and prompted a fire department response.

The Laguna Beach Police Department has issued voluntary evacuations for residents of the Balboa Nyes/Portafina neighborhood in Laguna Beach.

Residents and their pets are asked to be prepared if an immediate evacuation order is issued.

AIR7 HD cameras captured the fire approaching a community near Coronado Pointe, just along the Aliso Summit hiking trail.

Several water-dropping helicopters helped fight the flames, and fixed-wing aircraft crews also assisted.
According to the City of Aliso Viejo, Aliso Wilderness Park and Wood Canyons is now closed.
