Samsung’s latest tablet sounds straight out of 2020

Meet the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 – the same, but different, but still the same

The Android tablet hasn’t been the easiest. Even when many OEMs gave up on building tablets, Samsung remained strong with its Galaxy Tab line – and earned a well-deserved reputation as the only serious Android-based competitor for the iPad. Now tablets are finally getting the attention they deserve thanks to Android 12L (and soon, Android 13) as well as the upcoming launch of the Pixel tablet. We’ve got a long way to go before that one arrives, but this week Samsung is keeping things interesting with a ‘new’ tablet: a refresh of the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite.

Samsung’s new take on this 2020 model has quietly appeared on Amazon Italy (via SamMobile) without much announcement or fanfare from Samsung. But don’t let the familiar name fool you – there are actually a few differences you’ll want to be aware of that might make this a worthwhile purchase.

First, the 10nm Exynos 9611 chip inside the original Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is replaced with a faster and more efficient Snapdragon 720G. Apps often run a bit better on the Snapdragon silicon, and the chip should deliver big performance improvements across the board, even though that component also arrives two years ago.

Samsung is delivering the new Tab S6 Lite with One UI 4.1 based on Android 12. As a reminder, the original model launched with Android 10, and although it is currently upgradable to Android 12, it will only go up one version. major (Android 13) before being moved to a security-only update scheme and ultimately reaching EOL. In the meantime, if Samsung’s latest Android update promise holds up, this new tablet should be good all the way to Android 16 (and if for some reason it gets stuck with the same update policy as its older twin, that would still take us to Android 15).

If you want to grab one, Amazon Italy’s pre-order listing costs €400. Last time we checked it said “not available” but you might have better luck than us. Hopefully Samsung will confirm this one soon and let us know about plans for other markets.
