Update: It wouldn’t be a video game rumor without clarification, would it? Jeff Grubb has since taken to Twitter to expand on his comments, explaining that he’s also heard rumors that there won’t be a Sony showcase until at least September:
It wouldn’t be entirely out of the ordinary, as last year he hosted a livestream in September, as opposed to summer. He further explained on ResetEra, “I’m saying there are two competing sets of rumors floating around among people who sometimes know what’s going on.”
Do whatever you want with it.
Original story: Here, who’s up for a cheeky weekend gossip? We know to wait for Sony really do something can be a laborious process, especially when gossip like this is circulating, but these final whispers are still worth noting.
This particular rumor comes from talkative (and reliable) gaming journalist Jeff Grubb, who in the latest episode of GB Decides says that Sony could have a showcase for the first week of June. Grubb cites “multiple” sources, but cannot directly confirm that an event occurs.
Take it all with a grain of salt, then – as always with stuff like this – but the timing of such a showcase would make sense. We know Sony has the ammunition for a big event, and summer is shaping up to be an opportune time for publishers to share their plans, especially with Summer Game Fest locked and packed.
