Prime Minister Hun Sen, ASEAN Chairman 2022, arrived in Washington DC, United States on the evening of May 10 (Washington DC time) to attend and co-chair the Special ASEAN-US Summit from May 12-13 May, at the invitation of the United States. Chairman, Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed upon his arrival at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel by many Cambodian Americans and Cambodian Canadians.
A Cambodian American said he was very honored to meet Prime Minister Hun Sen personally, stressing that the prime minister’s presence in the United States is the nation’s pride and will further strengthen relations between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Special ASEAN-US Summit will be held in Washington DC to commemorate the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-US dialogue relations.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the Prime Minister and other ASEAN leaders will be received and invited to a bipartisan lunch by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, at the Capitol and to a dinner by President Biden to the White House.
ASEAN leaders will also meet with US business leaders to discuss economic cooperation. ASEAN leaders will meet with Vice President Kamala Harris and US Cabinet Secretaries on issues related to climate action, clean energy and sustainable infrastructure.
Exchanging views on regional and international issues and how to take the ASEAN-US partnership to a new level will be the highlight of this special summit.
The Cambodian Prime Minister will have a bilateral meeting with Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and other leaders of ASEAN member states.
The Prime Minister will also meet fellow Cambodians who live in the United States of America.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron , Minister of Education, Youth and Sports. , and other senior officials.
