Max Scherzer abruptly leaves Mets game in potential injury nightmare

The Mets have survived multiple injuries in their rotation so far this season, but a potential doomsday scenario unfolded Wednesday night.

Max Scherzer was in the middle of another solid outing when he threw his 87th pitch of the night, a slider into the dirt. Upon returning to the mound, he waved at the dugout with a wave on his neck, signaling that he was done for the night.

Mets Scherzer has asked to be removed from Mets games against the Cardinals on Wednesday.

A short mound meeting later, Scherzer left with a coach, ending his night with an apparent injury with two outs in the sixth inning against the Cardinals.

As Scherzer left the mound, he could be heard saying, “I’m done, I’m done.”

According to the team, the right came out with “left side discomfort” and will undergo imaging on Thursday.

The Mets are already dealing with injuries to Jacob deGrom (stress reaction to right shoulder blade) and Tylor Megill (right biceps tendonitis).
