Macron appoints a new government in a political rebalancing effort

PARIS—French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday appointed a new government that mixes high-level dignitaries with conservatives from his previous administration in a bid to rebuild his two-party coalition ahead of parliamentary elections.

Mr. Macron tapped Catherine ColumnFrench ambassador to the UK, to the post of foreign secretary, elevating a civil servant who worked in the administration of the late Conservative president Jacques Chirac become the best diplomat in the country.
