Joe Edward Sloan, Free Iredell News

Joe Edward Sloan, 82, of Olin, North Carolina, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at his home. He was born in Iredell County on January 19, 1940 to the late Offie Coite Sloan and Margaret Walters Sloan. He was also predeceased by a brother, Coite Lawrence Sloan.

Joe was a 1957 graduate of Union Grove High School and was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Hamptonville. He was a cabinet maker and started his own business in 1972. Joe loved John Deere tractors and had quite a collection of them. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, telling jokes, singing and assembling puzzles.

Those who cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Jean Tayes Sloan; one son, Eddie Sloan (Denise); one daughter, Brenda Wallace; two grandchildren, Wesley Sloan (Abigail) and Karen Sloan; one great-granddaughter, Charlie Jo Sloan; one brother, Howard Sloan (Christine); and two sisters, Elizabeth Foster and Lucille Shaver; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. David Pattisall and Rev. David Childress. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Church Cemetery.

The family will visit friends Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Nicholson Funeral Home.
