You can never have too many comfortable games between all the big AAA launches, in my opinion, and that’s exactly what makes the next slice of life sim Spirittea looks so inviting.

The second effort from indie developer Dan Beckerton, Spirittea been successful crowdfunding in 2020. At the time, Beckerton described Spirittea as reminiscent of games like Stardew Valley, harvest moonand animal crossing as well as Studio Ghibli movies Taken away as if by magic and My Neighbor Totoro. Based on today’s preview, I’d say he nailed those vibes.

Spirittea follows an author who has moved to a rural village to finish his book. However, our hero’s dreams of a distraction-free writing environment are shattered when he comes face to face with the supernatural elements that haunt his new home. -stress.

Here are some of the things SpiritteaThe Steam page of indicates that you will do in the game:

Solving Mind Problems – To remember themselves, they’ll need anything from spicy noodles to searching and searching for their lost treasures, so put on your problem-solving hat!

Befriend the locals – The townspeople all have their own schedules, likes, dislikes and hobbies to partake in – from bug catching to karaoke, there’s something for everyone!

Manage Bathhouses – You’ll need to clean towels, chop wood to heat bathhouses, and sit minds with their friends for the ultimate bathing experience.

Upgrade and Decorate – Local shops can craft lots of cool furniture and help you fix overgrown areas of the bathhouse. We should make it big enough and fancy enough to take on all spirits!

Spirittea is still without a release date, but publisher No More Robots is currently taking registrations for a closed beta that should be coming “very soon” if you want to see what Beckerton is up to.
