House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband booked on suspicion of impaired driving

The husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday morning after being involved in a collision with a vehicle, authorities said.

The collision happened at 10:26 p.m. Saturday when Paul Pelosi attempted to cross State Route 29 in Oakville, Calif., and the 2021 Porsche he was driving was hit by a 2014 Jeep, according to a collision report from the California Highway Patrol.

A responding CHP officer arrested Paul Pelosi, 82, for suspected drunk driving involving an alcoholic beverage, the agency said in the report, released to news agencies on Sunday.

None of the drivers involved in the crash were injured, the CHP said. The cause of the collision remained under investigation.

Pelosi’s attorney, Paul Kramer, said Monday that Pelosi was returning home from a rally when the collision and arrest occurred.

“Mr. Pelosi was attending a dinner party with friends near Oakville,” Kramer said in a statement. “He left that party at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, driving a short distance home. He was alone in his car.”

The attorney said Pelosi’s vehicle was hit by the other at an intersection.

Kramer added, “Mr. Pelosi cooperated fully with California Highway Patrol officers who arrived minutes later.”

Paul Pelosi was taken to the Napa Valley Detention Center just after 4 a.m. with bail set at $5,000, according to CHP and court records. Oakville, part of an area known for Cabernet production, is in the Napa Valley portion of the California Wine Country.

The Pelosis have a residence and winery in Napa County. The area is north of the San Francisco district of Nancy Pelosi.

Her spokesman, Drew Hammill, said on Sunday: ‘The speaker will not comment on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.

The arrest was first reported by TMZ.

Court filings say Paul Pelosi was hit with two counts: driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level over 0.08.

Paul Pelosi is a wealthy real estate investor who divides his time between San Francisco and Washington, D.C. A call to a phone number affiliated with him was not returned.
