NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Hundreds of people gathered Sunday night at Berkley Park in Norfolk to honor the life of a man killed in a shooting last week.
Moments after community leaders called for an end to the violence, they got exactly the opposite.

Shortly after community leaders said the vigil “should be a message of inspiration to this entire community”, gunshots rang out.
Bilal Muhammad of the Stop the Violence team was at the scene and tells WAVY-TV 10 that he witnessed the shooting. The Norfolk dispatcher also confirms this information to 10 On Your Side.
The evening began with a vigil for Marvin J. Milton Jr., 22, he was shot dead just before midnight Wednesday in the 5400 block of Greenplain Road in the Crown Point area west of JANAF and Taylor Lake.
Milton Jr. was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was known to his family and friends as “the rooster”.
His girlfriend, who is pregnant with their child, struggled to hold back tears during the vigil.
“We were robbed,” she said. “Oh my God, I can’t do this.”
Police are still investigating the two shootings — the one that killed Milton Jr. and the one at his wake. They haven’t released a suspect or motive either.
WAVY-TV 10 had a crew at the scene of the vigil, but they left safely before any shots were fired.
