After Steph Curry decided to reference the Grizzlies rally song during a pre-game chat, Memphis fans were more than happy to throw it back in his face in the fourth quarter of the blowout win over the team 134-95 against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday. .

Curry told ESPN the game plan for Game 5 against the Grizzlies was “whoop this trick,” referring to the song that plays to rock the Memphis crowd at home games. With the Grizzlies up 40 points in the fourth quarter, the song entered the arena and, naturally, everyone was super excited to sing and dance. So much so that even Draymond Green entered on pleasure.

The guy who really The team’s dance crew leader amused himself by chanting “whoop that trick” who, with a microphone in hand, approached Curry – long away from the game at this point – to applaud in front him.

Curry and Green seemed to be having fun, with the Warriors forward jokingly dancing and waving his towel. Maybe someone could say the guy with the microphone was a little too impatient, but it’s hard to imagine someone getting that kind of job while having a knack for keeping their cool during exciting sporting moments.

That was always the potential problem with Curry’s pre-game comments: Of course, he didn’t expect to see his team quite almost on the receiving end of an all-time playoff blowout, but when you push the bear (no pun intended), bad things can happen.

At least Curry and the Dubs will have their next opportunity to close the series Friday at 7 p.m. at home. Maybe then, Curry’s pregame words won’t come back to haunt the team.
