Elon Musk was accused of exposing himself to a flight attendant aboard one of his private planes in 2016 – and SpaceX later paid the woman $250,000 to settle her sexual misconduct claim, according to a new report.
Musk was also accused of rubbing the flight attendant’s leg without permission and offering to buy her a horse if she gave him an erotic massage on the plane, Insider reported Thursday, citing sources. documents and interviews.
The alleged incident happened in a cabin aboard one of Musk’s planes on a flight to London.
The attendant told a friend that Musk, who also owns Tesla and is looking to buy Twitter, asked him to come to his room during the flight for a massage, according to a statement written by the friend that was obtained by Insider.
The statement says that during the massage, Musk “exposed his genitals” and then “touched her leg and offered to buy her a horse if she would do more,” referring to the performance of sexual acts,” Insider reported.
The stewardess, who rides a horse, refused and completed the massage without engaging in anything sexual, according to the statement obtained by Insider.
SpaceX, the company founded by Musk, paid the flight attendant $250,000 in 2018 to settle the sexual misconduct claim against him.
Massages are big at SpaceX, Insider reported, and the flight attendant was encouraged to get her masseuse license, the friend told the outlet.
Musk told Insider in an email that there was “a lot more to this story” and called Insider’s report “a politically motivated blockbuster.”
“If I was prone to engaging in sexual harassment, it’s unlikely this will be the first time in my entire 30-year career that it’s been revealed,” he wrote to Insider.
SpaceX officials declined to comment on Insider’s story.
The flight attendant also declined to comment on Insider’s story. She has not been identified as she claimed to be a victim of sexual misconduct. The friend was also not identified by Insider.
The flight attendant hired a California labor attorney in 2018 and filed a complaint with SpaceX’s human resources department once she felt her opportunities were diminished within the company after she rejected the Musk’s proposal, according to Insider.
A settlement was quickly reached, Insider reported, and the flight attendant was paid as long as she promised not to pursue the claims.
The agreement includes non-disclosure and non-disparagement clauses, Insider reported.
