HARRIS COUNTY – A Harris County sheriff’s deputy died after being involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler on SH-249 on Wednesday afternoon, officials say.
HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the deputy as Robert Adam Howard, 27, from Harris County. Howard was a graduate of Cypress Woods High School.
Gonzalez said the deputy was a member of the HCSO’s gang unit and started in the sheriff’s office two years ago.
He was also a husband and father of a 2-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy.
The deputy is believed to have hit the 18-wheeler, which was parked on the side of the highway.
Another MP, who was on a motorbike, was also reportedly injured while assisting the motorcade carrying the first deputy to hospital, officials said. This member would have non-life-threatening injuries.
The original crash occurred on SH-249’s northbound lanes before Spring Cypress. The second occurred nearby in the 26900 block of I-45 North and Woodlands Parkway.
Howard was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands.
