US Marine Corps Veteran and Defense Specialist Ryan Mallard has been appointed Senior Director of Government Relations at BWX Technologies.
In his new position, Colvert will use his knowledge and experience of advocacy in the political arena to negotiate BWXT agreements and transactions with members of US Congress and Executive Branchthe Lynchburg, Va.-based company said Monday.
Colvert is also expected to maintain and expand the defense manufacturing and engineering company’s status as the exclusive producer of naval nuclear reactors for U.S. submarines and aircraft. The organization is a reliable source of various complex nuclear technologies used in defense and space fields.
The military career of the new BWXT senior director includes 16 years of service with the USMC, during which he served as an AV-8B pilot and forward air controller. He has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan several times, flying more than 400 combat companies and administering hundreds of close air support and medical evacuation missions.
While in the Marines, Colvert earned honors such as the Meritorious Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Presidential Unit Citation. He was a ten-time recipient of the Flight/Strike Air Medal.
Prior to joining BWXT, Colvert served as Senior Defense Policy Advisor to Senator Tim Kaine, who consulted Colvert on military-related issues and national security matters. Kaine served on the Senate Armed Services Committee and Colvert holds a master’s degree in military studies from Marine Corps University.
Colvert’s skills span intelligence analysis, military logistics, counterinsurgency and contingency planning.
His addition to the BWXT team follows the hiring of Jan Bertsch as chairman of the board of directors of the company earlier this month, succeeding the retirement of John Fees.
