Brief power outage after Maharashtra state cabinet meeting

At a time when several parts of Maharashtra are reeling from hours-long blackouts, ministers attending the state cabinet meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai suffered a brief power cut shortly after the meeting in which the minister Chief Uddhav Thackeray was unable to connect virtually.

An official said the power cut lasted three to four minutes at the state secretariat in south Mumbai.

Increased electricity demand due to scorching summer heat, mismatch of demand and supply and shortage of coal had forced the state government to carry out load shedding in several regions. Recently, on Monday evening, Mumbai experienced a power outage amid severe electricity shortage.

The city suffered blackouts in February this year and several times in the past month since the state government admitted a shortfall of around 3,000 MW.
