Assam cabinet to decide on separate classification for indigenous minorities who have not migrated to the state from other places » News Live TV » Assam

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that the state cabinet will decide by August 15 on a separate classification for indigenous minorities who have not migrated to Guwahati. Assam from other places.

The Chief Minister said: “We are in the process of identifying another group of minority people who did not migrate to Assam, their origin on this soil. The committee that was set up for this purpose gave us certain parameters that should be considered as an indigenous minority. I think the cabinet will make a decision on this before August 15.

“Muslims are now recognized as minorities alongside Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and other communities, regardless of their migration status. Until the Supreme Court makes no other interpretation, whoever follows Islam is the minority according to the definition of the Minority Commission. There is no problem identifying it. But Assam is on another path to identify the indigenous minority,” Sarma added.
