2022 Stanley Cup Playoff Game 7 results: Flames and Rangers both through after thrilling overtime wins

Early in the game, Artemi Panarin fired a shot from the right side of Tristan Jarry’s net to put the New York Rangers into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 4-3 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins . Panarin was assisted by Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad on the overtime winner. Zibanejad was key to the Rangers’ late success as his goal at 14:15 in the third period sent him into extra time. Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan was 3-0 in Game 7 before this game. His team finished the evening with a 45-30 advantage on penalties. Sidney Crosby featured in the game, having missed Game 6, and recorded an assist in the loss. The Rangers will face the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round.

At the end of the game, the Calgary Flames won their playoff series since 2015 with a 3-2 victory over the Dallas Stars team which had a solid goaltender in the person of Jake Oettinger. He recorded 64 saves and the Flames spent some time after the game congratulating him on his terrific performance following their win in the handshake line. Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau fired seven shots on the night and scored the game-winning goal from a hard angle 15:09 into the first overtime after grabbing a rebound, Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk getting the assist. Gaudreau also got an assist on a Tkachuk goal in the second period that tied the game. Next, the Flames will face the Edmonton Oilers, who advanced after a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in their own Game 7 on Saturday.
